Curse of Chucky

In 1988, the "Child's Play" slasher franchise was started with the first installment, "Child's Play." Then, in 2013, Chucky the possessed children's toy gets a direct-to-video sequel with "Curse of Chucky."

In this movie, Chucky is now at a house of a paraplegic (Brad Dourif's daughter, Fiona Dourif) and her mother (Chantel Quesnel). The mother somehow is murdered and her remaining family arrives at her funeral. Chucky quickly becomes friends with Alice, played by Maitland McConnell, since he knows the adults won't believe her when she tells them Chucky talks, says profane words and plans to murder everyone.

Everyone says that Chucky is just a toy (Boy, this is really starting to sound familiar). Chucky does the usual where he just sits there like a toy and when their back's a turned, he goes in for the kill.

There's a reason "Curse of Chucky" was not released in theaters. Even though Brad Dourif returns to voice Chucky and so does Don Mancini returns as writer-director, this movie doesn't have the humor or excitement that people who liked the films that came before this. Actually, this film moves slow at the start that whoever is new to the series would think what is the big deal.

Paul Chambers stated in his review, "Also new this month, all six Chucky films are available in a special Blu-ray edition that I CAN recommend to horror buffs. Plenty of special features and the movies look good in high-definition.  It’s just too bad that “Curse of Chucky” had to be such a dud."

Now I know I have said this before many times in my past reviews of every installment to the "Child's Play franchise," but I'm just not a fan of Chucky. I just don't get how in the world can someone be afraid of a killer toy? That is why I don't get into this series, and this film is no exception. I don't like it at all because it's direct-to-DVD, which already spells disaster, and plus it's another sequel to an already ridiculous franchise that I never liked from the start.

Here's a shock: next year they are talking about releasing the seventh installment in the "Child's Play franchise." Who knows if that will actually happen? They were saying that this year they were going to release the "Leatherface" movie, which is a prequel talking about how Leatherface became who he is, but that was never released. They need to end this franchise because I just don't see the need to keep making sequels to this.

Oh boy, is it great to finally get that franchise over with. Tomorrow will be the start to my series of reviews on another horrendous franchise that you should just avoid in this year's "Halloween Month."
